Familie Roe/Irwin
Lerchenrain 19 #4.1
8046 Zürich
Switzerland
(translation: Lerchenrain is the street, 19 is the street number of the apartment building and we are in apartment #1 on the fourth floor)
Here is a Switzerland map that shows where we will be living. You can zoom in to our neighborhood and street by clicking on the magnifying glass + sign:
http://map.search.ch/zuerich/lerchenrain-19.en.html?z=4
The boys' schools are just a few minutes' walk down the street to the east. Looks are decieving -- apparently our building is about halfway up a hill with the top of the hill to the south; a small town center is to the north, down the hill. Downtown Zürich is easily reachable by train, about 20 minutes or so we think. As you can see on the map, it's on a big lake and there are some nearby mountains for hiking (zoom back out and pan down to the south of Zürich to see the REALLY big mountains!).
Well, back to packing...

Wow - it's the Swiss Family Roe-Irwin site! What a great idea! The map feature is also really cool. Will we be able to follow your movement on the map as well? lol...Looking forward to reading more of your blog and experiences. In the meantime, good luck getting packed!
So, I am so excited about your families adventure! When thinking about your packing, I did some research and found out that "Women often carry flower baskets and men popular musical instruments like the Alp Horn, which can be heard from mountain to mountain." and "Most striking is a style sometimes described as the “Swiss German style,” which the author of this book recently had the privilege of observing on a live specimen: greenish suit, pink shirt, brown shoes, a superb tie covered with bright flowers—the kind you see on shower curtains—and, the finishing touch, a pair of glasses with heavy blue plastic frames." So maybe leave your midwest attire here and get your new wardrobes after arrival! We will look forward to seeing future photos of your family!
Maryanne -- thank you for your clothing advice! we are definitely getting some lederhosen for the boys. Whether they wear it or not is another question altogether...
