Zurich 2007-08 Calendar
We're trying to set up a calendar so that anyone who is interested can see when we'll be around and when our third bedroom (a.k.a. the swiss roe family b&b!) is free. Click on the google calendar link below to see our evolving plans for travels and visitors for our year in Zurich. We've marked the vacations times for Isaac and Elliot's schools; we're planning on pretty much being in Zurich when their schools are in session.
If you have a google account, use your account to access this calendar. Otherwise, you can use the following account info: "swissroe" (username) and "zurich" (password) (note: you don't have to choose "yes add this calendar" in order to view this):

Ckick on the "month" tab to view the calendar month-by-month. Click on the right arrow key (top left of the calendar) to page forward.

Contact Info
Nine days until we leave, eek! Here are our mail addresses:
Emails:
Brian: roe.30@osu.edu (unchanged)
Elena: irwin.78@osu.edu (unchanged)
Isaac: isaaccroe@gmail.com (new!)
Elliot: elliotbroe@gmail.com (new!)
Skype user names:
Brian: roe.30
Elena: elena.irwin
Snail mail:
Familie Roe/Irwin
Lerchenrain 19 #4.1
8046 Zürich
Switzerland
(translation: Lerchenrain is the street, 19 is the street number of the apartment building and we are in apartment #1 on the fourth floor)
Here is a Switzerland map that shows where we will be living. You can zoom in to our neighborhood and street by clicking on the magnifying glass + sign:
http://map.search.ch/zuerich/lerchenrain-19.en.html?z=4
The boys' schools are just a few minutes' walk down the street to the east. Looks are decieving -- apparently our building is about halfway up a hill with the top of the hill to the south; a small town center is to the north, down the hill. Downtown Zürich is easily reachable by train, about 20 minutes or so we think. As you can see on the map, it's on a big lake and there are some nearby mountains for hiking (zoom back out and pan down to the south of Zürich to see the REALLY big mountains!).
Well, back to packing...

Signing On
Welcome to our blog.
We are turning to the blogosphere to document our upcoming adventures to Zurich, Switzerland. We will be spending nearly a year in this northern Swiss city as part of Brian and Elena's sabbatical experience. Brian and Elena are both taking sabbaticals as part of their professor jobs at Ohio State University. While the genesis and circumstances of our journey are academic, the journey will affect all aspects of our family's life. Our sons, Isaac - nearly 7 - and Elliot - 4-1/2 - will perhaps face some of the biggest challenges and changes during the upcoming year.
This is just an initial post to test out the blogging software. We will be busy in the upcoming 2 weeks and 2 days as we try to do everything we need to do before we leave the country and begin life anew in the middle of Europe. We will try to update this before we leave, but no promises as our 'get out of the country' do list seems dauntingly large.
Regards,
Brian
